June, let it bloom

Post 22/2024 Goshen IN. It has been a quiet week after the noisy last leg home from Canada (see Post 21). We had a nice few days with Gerald and Mary and Richard and Sharon at Oliver Lake. Richard and I pressure washed the deck. That task, come to think of it, was pretty noisy, too. The reward: a sparkling deck, calm and quiet, fresh strawberries and root beer floats.

A few days in LaGrange County

Earlier in the week

We walked to the Goshen Public Library, stopping for lunch at The South Side Soda Shop, adding a few groceries to our backpacks on the way home.

Stratford flashback

In last week’s blog I noted some of the Stratford-related story, including the car exhaust system conundrum on the 360-mile drive home. Replacement parts are on order. Meanwhile we have a courtesy loaner to get us around. All in good hands.

Blessing

Local, regional, national and world events, whether we pay attention or not, influence our wellbeing and that of others. Like many, I am dismayed by the scale of human-made and natural disasters. Dismayed, yes; upbeat, optimistic, hopeful nonetheless.

As members of the human family we have relationships to build with ourselves, among one another and with nature. No one is an island. Life is a pilgrimage. Our being and doing either helps or hinders the common good.

My path through life entails seeking God’s blessing, purpose, correction, protection, direction, forgiveness, and assurance for the mystery, beauty and joy in the journey.

The following prayer, by Source Unknown, was found in Ely Cathedral, England. It’s taken from 600 Blessings and Prayers from around the world, complied by Geoffrey Duncan, (Twenty-Third Publications, 2002).

God of Pilgrimage

God of pilgrimage
be with me on my journey
through this life;
guard and defend me,
shelter and feed me,
challenge and inspire me,
teach me and lead me,
and when my days are ended
welcome me home at last
to rest in your love forever.

For the journey this month I ask for generous–tall orders, nigh impossible–measures of beauty, peace and joy for unexpected ways one can build better personal, corporate, and global relationships.

Were you able to eat in that bright, pink/red breakfast room at the Stratford B&B? I think I might be highly distracted by the color!

I am sure your power washing of the deck was very much appreciated! The steps look great!

I believe I saw an interview with Peter Hotez on TV in the past year or so. His subject certainly of concern!

Red for strawberries, raspberries and coffee cups. Fine food, fine time, few distractions. Thanks for your note on Peter Hotez. The book is an eye0plener. Not quite finished yet.

John, I’m always glad to see Tiffany’s in Tokepa make the news. You mention that it has changed hands.

Your mention of pressure washing the deck out at the lake takes me back to our last visit with you to the cottage when we were with you in 2021. All pleasant memories. Ken
